The Journal of the Sydney Society of Literature and Aesthetics

Literature & Aesthetics publishes fully refereed scholarly articles on the arts from a wide range of viewpoints, as well as occasional poetry, black and white art, short stories and book reviews. The journal reflects the vigour and creativity of contemporary scholarly and artistic practice, and contains articles of interest from leading international scholars and researches in the arts and humanities.

The editors welcome academic articles from authors from around the world on a wide range of topics. The journal has a scope that joins the philosophical to cultural studies. The focus is on literature, but we also philosophically examine a range of other cultural expressions. Literature & Aesthetics fills a gap in this general academic market is attested to by the very wide range of international scholars who submit their research to us.

The publication of Literature & Aesthetics has been made possible by the generosity of the Chancellorís Committee of the University of Sydney. Established in 1977 on the initiative of the late Sir Hermann Black, the Chancellorís Committee comprises a group of volunteer workers raising money for projects of university-wide significance. Grants totalling $1m have been made for a variety of projects including Library art collections and rare book conservations, scholarships, furniture and furnishings for various buildings, equipment, and other minor projects. As far as we know, Literature & Aesthetics is the first University-based journal to receive the support of the Chancellorís Committee. It is journal policy to include papers in philosophical aesthetics on any of the arts, papers in literature and literary theory, and ĎHand Oní work in the form of short poems, stories, essays, and black and white art. Literature & Aesthetics is a blind refereed journal and all contributions to the journal are refereed. Contributions must be submitted in electronic form via the email address below. All submissions should be double-spaced and should adopt the format of the current issue. In general, footnotes are used for reference only. Preference is given to articles under 8000 words (including quotations).
